Robert Morris upsets Kentucky in NIT; Schadenfreude reigns

Willie Cauley-Stein and the rest of the Wildcats found the going tough against Robert Morris in the first round of the NIT. (Don Wright/AP)
So, yeah, the season didn’t exactly go as expected for Kentucky. The Wildcats never really fully jelled, then lost shot-swatting future lottery pick Nerlens Noel to a knee injury, and didn’t even make the NCAA tournament.
To add insult to injury, the NIT 1-seed Wildcats had to play at Robert Morris in their tournament opener because Rupp Arena is being used as a subregional in the NCAA tournament this week.
To add mortification for Big Blue Nation to insult, they lost 59-57. And had an NEC team deliver a blitzkrieg of a court storm. Solid job by the Colonials’ fans.
If you were wondering whether people noticed the historic night for head coach @AndyToole and his Colonials, ummm, yeah. The Robert Morris Wiki page got an immediate update. A Twitter search of “Kentucky lol” is yielding predictable results.
So yeah, Kentucky’s going to be ridiculously loaded next season and likely will make up for a lot of these moments of ignominy. But for one (more) night, those who prefer other options (*cough*, Louisville, *cough) had one last reason to smile.
Robert Morris did college basketball a huge favor in beating Kentucky and slime Calipari.
Read what a couple RMU students say about the game:

Anyone else having trouble not laughing about this?
Calipari needs talent on the court when he rolls out the balls for practice.
I keep hearing about how loaded Kentucky will be next year.... It appears to me they have promised too many scholarships because everyone except Noel says they are returning. With Calamari's questionable past included, this could be one of the worst/most questionable things he has done as a coach.
Nice with for RMU! Coach Cal took it like a man I hope. He's been okay much of this season with an underperforming team and his inability to make them get much better after injury to Noel. Yes, next year will be a different story but for tonight there is joy in W.PA and throughout the country - just not in Lexington, KY. Take that, Ms. Judd!
