Indiana Scores Final 10 Points, Staves Off Temple To Advance
DAYTON, Ohio — Top-seed Indiana used a game-closing 10-0 run, fueled by a blocked dunk attempt by Christian Watford and a game-icing three-pointer from Victor Oladipo, to get past stubborn Temple, 58-52, and advance to the East regional semifinal in Washington, D.C. Temple star Khalif Wyatt had 31 points for the Owls, but couldn’t knock down a couple of looks late and the Hoosiers made the bigger plays down the stretch to claim the victory.
The Hoosiers led by nine in the first half, but that lead was quickly erased by the Owls. Temple took a lead late in the first half and held it for the entire second half until Cody Zeller (15 points and six rebounds, but six turnovers) made two free throws to tie the game at 52. After Oladipo made one of two free throws and Temple airballed a desperation shot, Oladipo made the backbreaking 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining and the Hoosiers closed it out from there.
Indiana won despite shooting just 42.2 percent from the field. They made 16 of 20 free throws, and Temple shot just 3-of-24 from the 3-point line.
