ESPN’s Outside the Lines team had a story today on Rutgers coach Mike Rice, who was suspended by the school for part of last season for inappropriate behavior toward his players, including shoving them and hitting them with thrown basketballs. The program included video clips of Rutgers practices that show graphic examples of a coach doing all sorts of things that should lead to his termination. Footage after the jump.

There’s really not too much to add at this point. You can see the video. You can see what’s in the video should not be happening between a coach and college athletes. It will be interesting to see what Rutgers’ next move is, as both Rice and athletic director Tim Pernetti should be on awfully thin ice for how this was allowed to happen and subsequently handled by the athletic department.

players should catch him in the parking lot and put a nice dress on him and tie him to the roof of his car. Just saying...

Rutgers University can do what they wish to please their alumni and big donors. What I want to know is why the local police have not arrested the coach for repeated instances of aggravated assault caught on video. Is this yet another instance in our society where there are 2 sets of laws?

Answer seems simple to me - role the videotape - why does someone have to sneak a video of practice?  Make it standard procedure to tape practices and the AD has the key.  Problem solved...

This is not a teacher, this is not a coach. Like Bobby Knight, you can find kids you can bully and intimidate into playing for you, but they aren't learning anything you couldn't teach a dog with a shock collar. Unquestionably needs to be fired, and more importantly, not hired by another school. This guy is a dangerous idiot.

Shame on Rutgers University for letting this animal destroy the minds of their players. Please parents sue the school and the Ad and Rice the abuser. Sick and disgusting.

why this sick demented Rice hasn't been fired immediately should cost the gutless AD his job. Totally disgusting and sickening this monster is allowed around kids. sad

Unbelivable... Extra points to Tom Izzo who doesn't need all this drama to get the best from his players at MSU for all these years. This guy and also the ones that are covering him up at Rutgers AD should be all fired by the University and penalized as well by NCAA, to set an example of what it stands for - fairness, leadership, respect and most of all, the fun of sports and competition.

My high school coach used to beat the crap out of us.  Punches to the face, thrown up against the lockers, you name it.  It was terrifying.  We put up with it because that was the way it was, and we were winning.  Those who came before us were winners.  That's the way it was.

I'm happy to see that at least people know that it is wrong.  This guy is a punk, and should never coach again.

This piece of trash should never be allowed to step on a basketball court again. A very sick man. Hard to believe he was hired by a school like Rutgers. Eric Murdock said it, he has never seen anything like it. I have been playing basketball my whole life and coaching the past 20 years, and a person like this should be excommunicated from the sport. Dr Naismith is rolling over in his grave.

No other employee at that university, including the football coach, would not have been fired immediately. Abuse, plain and simple, not even CLOSE to the line, WAY over it.

Rutgers is proud to call this man an employee... and try to sell his program to Mom and Dad, come into their living rooms and tell them what good care he will take of their child. Good luck with that, Rutgers, just a GREAT decision to embrace this pathetic bleep.

How many guys would kill to have the opportunity to be a head coach in the Big East-now-Big-10, and this clown acts like this?  Unreal...and yes, AD should go too!

He should be fined and fired, and the players should get some money for having to endure the abuse.

The most shocking part of this story is not Rice's behavior, but rather that Rutgers continued to employ him after seeing this.

A great addition to the Big 10

Mike Rice - you are so fired.  Every player on the team should sue the school for allowing the abuse, and they should sue Rice in civil court for his behavior.  He is a "world class unprofessional".  He is garbage and needs to be thrown away.  WTF is going through his mind when he abuses his players this way?  Possibly jail would be appropriate for him as well.

How deployable....he better be glad that none of the players are my child......the university and the coach would have a big problem!!!!!! He is a bully that needs anger management and needs to be looking for a new job!!!!! Shame on university!!!!
