Dunking sensation Doug Anderson drafted by Harlem Globetrotters
With the possible exception of Detroit basketball fans, chances are if you’ve heard the name Doug Anderson, you heard it during a dunk contest.
His unique skill set made for precisely the kind of dunking sensation that would fit seamlessly into the Harlem Globetrotters’ trick shot antics. Apparently they thought so, too, and Tuesday, drafted Anderson along with four other players.
There’s no word on whether Anderson will accept a spot on the team that’s long been held as the gold standard of modern day hoops trickery. Anderson still has designs on playing in the NBA, and recently told the Detroit News that a team would likely select him for a summer league trial, assuming he is not taken in Thursday night’s draft.
Which means we may never see Anderson suit up in the Globetrotter’s trademark red, white and blue uniforms. If his NBA dreams fall through, let’s hope Anderson can continue to display his one defining skill in some high-profile capacity, whether with the Globetrotters or elsewhere.
