Duke’s and North Carolina’s campuses are separated by just eight miles, but that distance has proved insurmountable Wednesday night.

After varying reports throughout the afternoon, Duke’s visit to North Carolina has been postponed because of bad weather. The game has been rescheduled for February 20th.

Earlier today, the National Weather Service issued a warning for 95 out of 100 counties in North Carolina. Nearby Wake County has since declared a state of emergency because of the falling snow. Duke sports information director Matt Plizga said that the team will “adjust accordingly” to weather when making its travel plans. Carolina has cancelled the Tar Heel Express shuttle service for the game.

Whether or not the weather will make the trip impossible is to be determined. Neither Duke nor North Carolina has made any official announcement, but below are some reports from the area. We’ll keep this post updated with the latest news.

UPDATE at 5:40 p.m.: The game has been officially postponed.

UPDATE at 5:22 p.m.: ABC 11 (WTVD) report Mark Armstrong, citing an anonymous Duke staffer, has said that the game has been canceled.

UPDATE at 4 p.m.: North Carolina distributed an email to members of the media, stating that the game is still schedule for a 9:10 p.m. tip. “ACC policy states that we should play the game if the teams, officials and games operations staff can safely get to the arena,” Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said. “As of right now, we believe that those critical personnel will be able to get here. We distributed approximately 6,000 student tickets before today and we will be able to get more students in the building once we see how many people with tickets actually attend the game. Seats that go unused by season ticket holders will be filled by students.”
