Syracuse is again No. 1 in the AP poll this week after Tyler Ennis’ buzzer-beater at Pittsburgh last Wednesday and C.J. Fair’s game-winning layup against N.C. State on Saturday. But the Orange are no longer the consensus top team in the country.

After defeating Kentucky at Rupp Arena for the first time since 2007, the Florida Gators jumped to No. 2 team in the country and received one first-place vote. The still-unbeaten Wichita State Shockers are No. 3. Arizona, which fell to Arizona State (in part due to bad officiating), dropped to No. 4, and Duke moved up three spots to No. 5.

STAPLES: Gators’ veterans learn from past losses at Rupp

San Diego State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Villanova and Saint Louis rounded out the top 10.

Long time IU fan. One down....one more to go. And Da Cuse fans thought they could duplicate IU in 76???? All I gotta say is......................ha, ha, ha, ha. Losing to an unranked team at home with a terrible record. You don't even belong in the same conversation as the 76 hoosiers. By the way, Cuse.......Keith Smart says hello!!!!!!!

KU wins again, by 1 over TTU rated 103 RPI. Should move up next week.

So WI loses 5 games in two weeks, they still beat Iowa, MSU, St Louis, Virginia and Florida,  #16 seriously......

MSU takes the L at home to Nebraska? Pretty much got handled all game. Should drop them out of the top 25 tbh.

How Kansas is in the top 10 is anyone's guess.

And .......how about that Kentucky team 40-0 lol

How does KU stay at #8 with a lose last week.  To a team that's not in the top 25

How can Creighton be ranked lower than 'Nova after beating them twice?  There is a serious credibility issue at stake here with the voters if they truly believe Nova is a better team than a team that has beat them twice.  And, I don't have a dog in the fight here.  Don't live in either city and didn't go to either U.  This weeks standings seems ridiculous to me. And Wichita not being #2?  Stupid.  If Gonzaga can get to number 1 last year playing in the WCC, Wichita should be able to get to #2 from their conference.  The voters really should be ashamed of themselves this week.

How does Duke go up in rankings with a two point win over an unranked team?

@Anaximenes1 A win is a win. I'll take 'luck' all day every day vice sitting at home and saying the other team was 'lucky.'

@Anaximenes1  There are a bunch of teams that have been lucky and good, not only the CUSE.

Good championship teams fine a way to win, it's in their DNA as the saying goes.

@wildbee  I'm a big Wisco fan, but they've looked really bad at times.  Like they've decided that since they can score this year then they don't have to play defense any more.  I hope they've got their complete game back, that was a nice win against Michigan.  16 isn't all that out of line.

@x72 That's because of all of the injuries MSU has had to deal with.  When Appling, Dawson and Payne are all healthy it will be a different story in March.  State deserves to be in the top 25 because of the top teams they have already beaten - Iowa, Ohio State, Texas and Kentucky.   GO STATE!

@PackersFanNumeroUno   Kansas has been over rated all year, based solely on that "amazing freshman class" that was supposed to dominate college hoops. None of their SIX losses count because they have some young players who apparently need the entire season to gel LOL they will be "upset" early in the tourney like the majority of Bill Self's teams. And no matter how bad Kentucky plays, their is an NCAA rule that requires they stay in the top 25. Early season hype is the only thing keeping these 2 teams at their current lofty rankings.

@PackersFanNumeroUno Because their only losses on the season are to #2, 6, 9, 25, Colorado and K-State, all of which will be in the NCAA tournament. Because they've done that against the hardest schedule in the country.

Yup.  Even in a down year for the MVC, they would still beat the snot out of the WCC.  Outside of Gonzaga, BYU and Saint Mary's, the rest of the WCC has nothing on the MVC.  Every MVC team has been to the NCAA Tournament in the past 15 years.  There's very few conference even BCS ones that can say that.  The MVC is a very strong top to bottom conference.  It's not like the Big 10 where Northwestern is in last place every year.  The last place team in the MVC changes year to year, it's a very competitive conference.

@jimnie  I have to agree to some extent.  The Missouri Valley Conference is better than the West Coast Conference, even in a down year like this year.  WCC has 3 decent programs in their Conference. Gonzaga, BYU which used to belong to the Mountain West, and Saint Mary's.

The rest of the teams in the WCC are notoriously bad year after year.

At least the Missouri Valley Conference has had every team in it's Conference play in the NCAA Tournament the past 15 years.  You can name every team in the MVC and point to some recent success.  Southern Illinois, Bradley, Illinois State and Creighton were all strong programs in the early 2000's.  2006 saw 4 MVC teams get into the Tournament.  Drake went on a nice little run into 2008 to get in. Northern Iowa took down Kansas in 2010 the # 1 ranked team in the country with the overall #1 seed gets taken down by UNI.

With all the success Gonzaga has had, they haven't been to the Elite Eight since 1999.  Gonzaga has been able to dominate the WCC and secure the auto bid nearly every season.  The reason you don't hear about any team from the Missouri Valley dominating their conference for years and years, is because the MVC is a deep conference.  Evansville a team outside of the Top 5 in the MVC last year was the only team to sweep Wichita State in the conference series.  It's a little easier for Gonzaga to dominate the WCC than it is for Wichita State to dominate the MVC.

Wichita State is not this years Gonzaga.  Even in a down year for the MVC, the MVC is still a better top to bottom conference than the WCC is.  Gonzaga was never tested in their conference last year.  They comfortably beat every conference opponent last year in the WCC.  Wichita State has gone into halftime trailing a number of times this year against MVC teams.  Wichita State has been tested numerous times this season.  The MVC being bad is a perception problem.  And that perception is wrong.

@jimnie Totally agreed on the Creighton/Villanova thing. And Creighton didn't just beat Villanova; they absolutely destroyed them twice.

@jimnie  I agree.  Maybe because Creighton played in the mvc last year.

The opinions of these strangers is a TRAVESTY!! If only there were some way these teams could play to see who's really better...... silly pipe dream.... haha!

@8-ball  Because four teams in front of them lost...and three of those to unranked teams. Seems simple to me.

@Fultonator @wildbee  Despite the losing streak, they have beaten 5 Top 25 teams. How many other teams can say that? Not 15

@KyleRohde @PackersFanNumeroUno  This is the BS about these polls They still lost and a loss is a loss except for these polls prejudice in dismissing name schools losses. You may as well not play any games as results don't seem to matter. Why should Wichita State with no losses be ranked below Florida with 2?

@x72 @allowtl77   Bad day bad game.  Syracuse won NC State by one point.  They won but still.  State still tied for no. 1  in Big Ten.  Hoping to be healthy for the Michigan vs. Michigan State game.  Divided house here - husband went to U of M  and son went to Michigan State.  Dad is from Kentucky  - huge Wildcat fan.  Now live in North Carolina where Tarheels and BlueDevils rule. Ha!   Have to get along.

It's hard to argue with the total record Florida has, but they only have three quality wins all year (Kansas at home, at Kentucky, at Memphis). What works in their favor, more than anything, is that they've dominated in SEC play; plus their two losses are quality losses in true road games in the non-conference.

That said, Wichita State also has some decent wins, as well as wins vs common opponents (Tennessee, Alabama) in addition to being undefeated. Both teams are separated by very little in RPI, and it may end up coming down to who wins their conference AND conference tournament as to who ends up the second #1 seed.
