The Florida Gators are the new No. 1 team college basketball. While Syracuse, last week’s No. 1, lost to Boston College on Wednesday night, the No. 2 Gators survived a scare against Auburn. On Saturday, they got a win at Ole Miss while the Orange lost again, this time at Duke.

The Gators are the fifth No. 1 this season, and it’s their first time atop the polls since 2006-07. As the defending national champions, they were atop the polls for eight weeks that year.

Unbeaten Wichita State, which finishes its regular season on Saturday against Missouri State, moved up to No. 2. Arizona, Syracuse and Kansas rounded out the top five.

Duke, which lost to UNC before beating Syracuse, dropped one spot to No. 6. Louisville moved up four spots to No. 7, followed by No. 8 Villanova, No. 9 Creighton and No. 10 Saint Louis.

Syracuse as a one seed would bring heavy action on the 16.  They are no threat whatsoever to cut down the nets.

Nice to c my TAR HEELS back in the Rankings where they belong as they keep their Win Streak Rolling along, Tough ACC Season but they should Finish as a #3-4 Seed Depending on how they Finish. 3 Great Wins Vs then #1 MSU at MSU, then Top 10 I think Ranked LOUISVILLE & the #5 DUKE, these Young Kid's an Vet's can pay but they also had some BAD Losses early in the Year.

At least there is a tournament in this sport to let all these teams settle it on the court.

Some may wonder why Florida would be ranked ahead of team(s) that beat them, such as Arizona, but really, it's a case of not who's #1 now, but who's left stranding at the "end" of each basketball year. Being #1 just means Florida will lose sometime later.

I know this is just a poll and doesn't mean diddly, but Creighton has blown out Villanova TWICE. Seeing 'Nova at 8 and the Blue Jays at 9 is a weird juxtaposition.

KU at their best will beat ANYBODY, even if the other team plays its best ball.  Only problem, Kansas is young and doesn't always play their best.  We are getting more consistent, though.  Just hope we're ready for March Madness.

Rock Chalk, Jayhawk, KU!!

14 voters think Wichita State would beat Florida on a neutral court?

......just think if Wisconsin hadn't lost focus. Having beat Florida they would be No.1.....YIKES!

Then again, if ANY of the best teams hadn't lost focus......ZZzzsst!

@JRTENN Hey Tenn...  Florida lost to Arizona in December 2012.... Welcome to 2014; the weather is great!!!

@Afiba  The instant you insert "we" into your argument, you lose all credibility.

@Afiba When will KU be their best? They've lost quite a few games for no apparent reason other than they weren't, "at their best?" They've lost to two teams that Arizona beat handily, both times on the road. One, Colorado by 27 in Boulder. That's without Brandon Ashley. KU is a good team, but they have proven they aren't the best team in the land at least 6 times. But they might put it together, who knows? That's why it's called March Madness.

@biasedsportsfan Don't forget those same Wichita State players made the final four last year, and almost the final.

@biasedsportsfan Why not?   They have the same team as the Final Four team from last year.  There are up to 5 teams from non-major conferences (depending on your option of the Big East) in the top ten which shows the strength of the non-majors.   Also, Wichita State beat two SEC teams this year.

@LeeMorrell @AfibaI'm a Jawhawk fan, win or lose, and proud of it.  Has nothing to do with KU being the best.  As of now, KU is often projected to provide 2 of the top 3 draft picks in the next NBA draft.  Wiggins, Embiid and Parker in some order.

@jjbingham @AfibaSuggest you check out KU and Arizona's RPI's for an unbiased evaluation of their schedules.

@jjbingham @AfibaThey're young and it shows sometimes.  But they are gelling and watch out.

@jjbingham @AfibaLast Saturdya, after 4½ min against the nº 20 team, Texas, KU trailed 8-3.  Halftime score:  46-18.  That's a 43-10 run against a top 20 team.  Where were you?

@jjbingham @Afiba  Did you watch them Saturday against Texas? If they play like that, they can beat anyone...

@tootallgoof @biasedsportsfanMy reasoning is Florida's 32nd-ranked strength of schedule and Wichita State's 112th-ranked strength of schedule. Florida has been tested far more often - 12-2 against RPI top 100 teams (5-2 vs. top 50). Wichita State is 7-0 against RPI top 100 teams (but only 2-0 vs. top 50).

@tootallgoof @biasedsportsfan  Your closing argument didn't help your case ("two SEC").  This ain't football: Tenn. (on bubble) & Ala (11-16) would have a fight against most MVC squads.  But I still like Shockers #1 (your opening statement).

@Afiba Your point being what?  Do the teams with the four strongest SOS's get seeded straight to the Final Four?
